Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Colorado Rockies

The Los Angles Dodgers and the Colorado Rockies face off on Monday in game one of their National League West series. The Dodgers are -136 favorites over the Rockies with an over/under run total set at 8.
The Los Angeles Dodgers have high expectations this year but thus far they haven’t played out on the field. The Dodgers are 5-5 in their last 10 games, 6-6 at home this season, and they are 2.5 games back in the division standings. As a team the Dodgers are hitting .250 with Mark Ellis hitting .342, Adrian Gonzalez hitting .337, and Carl Crawford hitting .307. The Dodgers opponents are hitting .247 and the Los Angeles pitching staff has an ERA of 3.82. For game one against the Rockies the Dodgers start Ted Lilly who pitched well in his first outing but he got a no decision. In his one outing Lilly allowed six hits and a run while striking out seven over 5.0 innings of work.
The Colorado Rockies are coming off a miserable season and in the early going this year they look to have things headed in the right direction. The Rockies are 4-6 in their last 10 games, 6-7 on the road this season, and they are tied with the Diamondbacks for first place in the NL West. As a team the Rockies are hitting .279 with Michael Cuddyer hitting .333, Wilin Rosario hitting .329, and Troy Tulowitzki hitting .308. The Rockies opponents are hitting .259 and the Colorado pitching staff has an ERA of 3.81. For game one at Dodger Stadium the Rockies start Tyler Chatwood who makes his second start of the year. In his first start Chatwood allowed nine hits and five runs, four of them earned, while striking out three over six innings not earning a decision.
Los Angeles is 6-2 in their last eight games overall, 0-4 in their last four games against the NL West, and 12-4 in Lilly’s last 16 starts. Colorado is 9-23 in their last 32 road games, 2-7 in their last nine games overall, and 1-4 in Chatwood’s last five road starts. Los Angeles has won the last four meetings of these two.
I don’t see a lot of scoring happening here so my pick is on the under.

New York Mets vs. Los Angeles Dodgers

The New York Mets and the Los Angeles Dodgers face off on Thursday at Citi Field as they close out their series. The Dodgers are -110 favorites over the Mets with an over/under run total set at 8.
The New York Mets rallied late on Wednesday and ended up getting the win in a big way in extra innings. Jordan Valdespin hit a pinch hit grand slam home run for the game winner, Lucas Duda had two hits, and Daniel Murphy and David Wright added hits as the Mets scored seven runs on 11 hits. Matt Harvey didn’t show his best stuff as he allowed four hits and three runs while striking out seven over six innings to not factor in the decision as Bobby Parnell got the win to go to 1-0 on the year. For Thursday’s game New York starts Jeremy Hefner who is looking for his first win of the year. For the season Hefner has allowed 17 hits and 11 earned runs while striking out eight over 14 innings of work for an 0-2 record and a 7.07 ERA.
The Los Angeles Dodgers are having a disappointing start to the season and blowing the lead Wednesday in the ninth inning has been typical of their play. Matt Kemp hit a home run and had three RBI’s and Adrian Gonzalez, Andre Ethier, and Mark Ellis all had hits as the Dodgers scored three runs on four hits. Starting pitcher Ted Lilly allowed six hits and a run while striking out seven over five innings to not factor in the decision as Brandon League blew the save and Josh Wall to the loss to fall to 0-1 on the year. For Thursday’s game Los Angeles starts Hyun-Jin Ryu who is still adjusting to his first year in the U.S. and the Major League. For the season Ryu has allowed 27 hits and 11 runs while striking out 26 over 24.2 innings for a 2-1 record and a 4.01 ERA.
New York is 13-5 in their last 18 home games, 3-5 in their last eight games overall, and 2-5 in Hefner’s last seven starts. Los Angeles is 7-3 in their last 10 game three of a series, 1-4 in their last five games as a favorite, and 12-6 in their last 18 against the NL East. Los Angeles is 5-1 in their last six games in New York.
The total in this one is set at eight and I have this one going over that number and that is my pick.

Baltimore Orioles vs. Los Angeles Dodgers

The Baltimore Orioles and the Los Angeles Dodgers meet on Friday at Camden Yards as they open their interleague series on Friday. The Orioles are -120 favorites over the Dodgers with an over/under run total set at 9.
The Baltimore Orioles ended their series with the Rays on Thursday in dramatic fashion and they can only hope they can use it as positive momentum going into the weekend. The Orioles are 5-5 in their last 10 games, 3-3 at home, and they are three games back in the AL East. As a team the Orioles are hitting .254 with Adam Jones hitting .375, Chris Davis hitting .353, and Nick Markakis is hitting .317. Baltimore opponents are hitting .244 and the Orioles pitching staff has an ERA of 4.06.
For Friday’s game Baltimore starts Jason Hammel who hasn’t won at home yet this season. For the year Hammel has allowed 15 hits and nine earned runs while striking out nine over 18, 2innings for a 4.34 ERA and a 2-1 record.
The Los Angeles Dodgers had Thursday off but thus far this season they haven’t come close to achieving the lofty expectations placed on them. The Dodgers have lost their last four games, are 4-6 in their last 10 games, and they are four games back in the National League West. As a team the Dodgers are hitting .261 with Adrian Gonzalez hitting .407, Carl Crawford hitting .375, and A.J. Ellis hitting .311. The Dodgers opponents are hitting .242 and the Los Angeles pitching staff has an ERA of 3.26. For Friday’s game the Dodgers start Hyun-Jin Ryu who has won his last two starts. Thus far Ryu has allowed 19 hits and six earned runs while striking out 20 over 18.2innings of work for a 2-1 record and a 2.89 ERA.
Baltimore is 7-1 in their last eight interleague home games, 6-2 in their last eight games as a home favorite, an 4-1 in Hamel’s last five starts against a team with a losing record. Los Angeles is 2-5 in their last seven games following an of day, 15-51 in their last 66 interleague games as an underdog, and 1-7 in their last eight games against the AL East. The Dodgers have won the last five meetings of these two.
I like Ryu and I know he has the stuff to pull off a win here but the Dodgers just don’t seem motivated and I just can’t take them until they show me the ability to win.

Pick
Baltimore Orioles -120 Los Angeles Dodgers

Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Cincinnati Reds

The Cincinnati Reds and the Los Angeles Dodgers face off on Saturday in game two of their series in Cincinnati.

The Cincinnati Reds are down to a magic number of one as with a win or a Cardinals loss they will clinch the NL Central. On Friday Joey Votto, Scott Rolen, and Xavier Paul each had hits as the Reds scored one run on four hits in all. On the mound Bronson Arroyo allowed six hits and a run while striking out four over eight innings to not factor in the decision as Sam LeCure took the loss. For Saturday’s game Cincinnati starts Mat Latos who hasn’t had a decision in his last two starts but won his two prior decisions. For the year Latos has allowed 166 hits and 79 earned runs while striking out 171 over 189.1 innings of work for a 3.76 ERA.

The Los Angeles Dodgers are still holding onto post season hopes as with Friday’s win they are just two games out of the final Wildcard spot. Matt Kemp had three hits and Adrian Gonzalez and Andre Ethier had hits as the Dodgers scored three runs on seven hits. On the mound Joe Blanton allowed four hits and a run while striking out six over 5.2 innings to not factor in the decision as it was Ronald Belisario who got the win and Brandon League who earned his fourth save. For Saturday’s game Los Angeles starts Stephen Fife who has three no decisions and a loss in his four starts this year. For the season Fife has allowed 20 hits and six earned runs while striking out 16 over 21.2 innings of work for a 2.49 ERA.

Cincinnati is 6-2 in their last eight games against the NL West, 47-23 in their last 70 games overall, and 20-7 in Latos’ last 27 starts. Los Angeles is 10-3 in their last 13 games against the NL Central, 3-5 in their last eight road games, and 4-9 in their last 13 games against a right handed starter. Los Angeles is 36-17 in the last 53 meetings of these two.

Cincinnati has struggled against the Dodgers but they will be cracking open the champagne in Cincinnati after this one as they clinch the Central.

Pick

Cincinnati Reds -140 Los Angeles Dodgers

Los Angeles Dodgers vs. San Francisco Giants

The Los Angeles Dodgers and the San Francisco Giants face of on Wednesday in a pivotal game in the NL West.  The Giants are -120 favorites over the Dodgers with an over/under run total set at 6.5.

The Los Angeles Dodgers entered their series against the Giants with the lead in the NL West but after losing again on Tuesday they now trail the Giants by a game and a half. On Tuesday Adam Kennedy had two hits, Shane Victorino had a hit, and Matt Kemp had a hit as the Dodgers scored one run on six hits. On the mound Joe Blanton allowed 10 hits and four earned runs while striking out six over 5.2 innings to fall to 8-12 on the year. For Wednesday’s game Los Angeles looks to stop the bleeding as they start Chris Capuano who won his last decision ending a personal streak of three lost decisions. For the year Capuano has allowed 140 hits and 55 earned runs while striking out 143 over 157.2 innings of work for a 3.14 ERA.

The San Francisco Giants have been overcoming missing players all season long and with Melky Cabrera on the shelf for the foreseeable future the Giants haven’t shown any signs of slowing down. On Tuesday Angel Pagan had three hits, Marco Scutaro had two hits, and Pablo Sandoval and Buster Posey each had hits as the Giants scored four runs on 10 hits. On the mound starter Tim Lincecum allowed five hits and a run while striking out four over to raise his record to 7-13 and Javier Lopez earned his third save. San Francisco is 4-1 in their last five road games, 7-19 in their last 26 game three of a series, and 7-3 in Cain’s last 10 road starts. San Francisco is 5-1 in Cain’s last six starts against Los Angeles.

The total in this one is set at 6.5 and I have this one going over

Atlanta Braves vs. Los Angeles Dodgers

The Atlanta Braves and the Los Angeles Dodgers close out their series in Atlanta on Sunday.  The Braves are -120 favorites over the Braves with an over/under run total set at 8.

The Atlanta Braves have been playing well of late but they never got it going on Saturday as they lost to the Dodgers. Martin Prado had two hits including a home run and Michael Bourn and Chipper Jones each had hits as the Braves scored two runs on five hits. On the mound Ben Sheets was hit hard early as he allowed four hits and six earned runs while striking out three over six innings to fall to 4-3 on the year. For Sunday’s game Atlanta starts Mike Minor who has lost his last two starts. For the season Minor has allowed 122 hits and 71 earned runs while striking out 107 over 129.2 innings of work for a 4.93 ERA.

The Los Angeles Dodgers are looking to make the post season and even without their manager Don Mattingly, they still won on Saturday.  Hanley Ramirez had two home runs the first of which was part of three home runs in a row by Ramirez, James Loney and Luis Cruz. On the mound Aaron Harang was solid allowing four hits and a run while striking out eight and walking five over 6.2 innings to raise his record to 9-7 on the year and Kenley Jansen earned his 25th save. For Saturday’s game Los Angeles starts Chad Billingsley who has won his last five starts. For the season Billingsley has allowed 140 hits and 56 earned runs while striking out 123 over 139.1 innings of work for a 3.62 ERA.

Atlanta is 4-1 in their last five games as a home favorite, 17-6 in their last 23 home games, and 1-4 in Minor’s last four home starts against a team with a winning record. Los Angeles is 7-2 in their last nine games against the NL East, 9-3 in their last 12 road games, and 4-0 in Billingsley’s last four starts against the NL East. Los Angeles is 2-4 in the last six meetings of these two.

Runs are going to be tough to come by in this one and I have it coming in under the total.

Philadelphia Phillies vs. Los Angeles Dodgers

The Philadelphia Phillies and the St. Louis Cardinals close out their series on Sunday in Philadelphia.  The Cardinals are -125 favorites over the Phillies with an over/under run total set at 8.5.

The Philadelphia Phillies got the win on Friday but on Saturday it was much of what we have seen from them all season as they fell to the Cardinals. Chase Utley, Ryan Howard, and Dominic Brown each had hits as the Phillies scored one run on four hits. On the mound Cliff Lee allowed 10 hits and four runs while striking out six over seven innings as his record fell to a disappointing 2-7. For Sunday’s game Philadelphia starts Vance Worley who lost last time out when he lasted just 3.2 innings against the Braves. For the season Worley has allowed 121 hits and 48 earned runs while striking out 93 over 112.2 innings of work for a 3.83 ERA.

The St. Louis Cardinals haven’t given up on their season and they didn’t give up on Saturday as they came back for a convincing win. Matt Holliday had three hits including a home run, Allen Craig had three hits, and Yadier Molina had two hits as the Cardinals scored four runs on 10 hits. On the mound Jake Westbrook allowed four hits and run while striking out three over 7.2 innings to raise his record to 12-8 and Jason Motte earned his 26th save. For Sunday’s game St. Louis starts Lance Lynn who has won three of his last four decisions. For the season Lynn has allowed 124 hits and 52 earned runs while striking out 133 over 133 innings for a 3.52 ERA.

Philadelphia is 8-4 in their last 12 home games, 5-14 in their last 19 game three of a series, and 1-5 in Worley’s last six starts as an underdog. St. Louis is 6-2 in their last eight games against a team with a losing record, 5-10 in their last 15 road games, and 16-7 in Lynn’s last 23 starts. St. Louis is 2-4 in the last six meetings of these two.

We have two pitchers who seem to get into trouble often and this should be a high scoring game that goes over the total.

Miami Marlins vs. Los Angeles Dodgers

The Miami Marlins and the Los Angeles Dodgers meet on Sunday in Miami.  The Dodgers are -120 favorites over the Marlins with an over/under run total set at 8.

This has been a disappointing season for the Miami Marlins but they haven’t quit and we saw it on Saturday as they pounded the Dodgers in what was a close game most of the way. Donovan Solano and John Buck had two hits each and Carlos Lee drove in two runs as the Marlins scored seven runs on 11 hits in all. On the mound Ricky Nolasco allowed nine hits and two earned runs to raise his record to 9-11 on the year. For Sunday’s game Miami starts Wade LeBlanc who makes his third start this year after working primarily from the bullpen this season. For the year LeBlanc has allowed 22 hits and four earned runs while striking out 17 over 24 innings of work for a 1.50 ERA.

The Los Angeles Dodgers are in a real battle in the NL West and with the Giants winning on Saturday their loss to the Marlins put them a game back in the standings. Matt Kemp had three hits, Andre Eithier had two hits, and Hanley Ramirez had a hit as the Dodgers scored three runs on 11 hits. On the mound Joe Blanton allowed six hits and four earned runs while striking out three over five innings to fall to 8-10 on the year. For Sunday’s game Los Angeles starts Chris Capuano who has lost his last three starts. For the year Capuano has allowed 133 hits and 52 earned runs while striking out 125 over 142.1 innings of work for a 3.29 ERA.

Miami is 8-16 in their last 24 games overall, 13-5 in their last 18 against the NL West, and 2-7 in their last nine game three of a series. Los Angeles is 4-1 in their last five road games, 5-1 in their last six against the NL East, and 1-5 in Capuano’s last six starts. Los Angeles is 4-2 in their last six meetings of these two.

The Dodgers are the better team overall but this is a long road trip and Capuano hasn’t been able to get it done so the home dog is the choice here.

Miami Marlins +100 Los Angeles Dodgers

St. Louis Cardinals vs. Los Angeles Dodgers

The St. Louis Cardinals and the Los Angeles Dodgers face off on Monday in at Busch Stadium for game one of their series.  The Cardinals are -145 favorites over the Dodgers with an over/under run total set at 9.

The St. Louis Cardinals are in a rough spot in the National League Central as they are playing good baseball but aren’t gaining any ground on the leaders. The Cardinals are 5-5 in their last 10 games, 26-20 at home this season, and they are five games back in the N.L. Central. As a team the Cardinals are hitting .275 with Matt Holliday hitting .321, Yadier Molina at .306, and David Freese at .305. As a team the Cardinals pitching staff has an ERA of 3.79 with the starters at 3.55 and the bullpen at 4.33. For game one against the Dodgers St. Louis starts Joe Kelly who hasn’t allowed more than three runs in any of his starts this year. For the season Kelly has allowed 41 hits and 12 earned runs while striking out 25 over 39.1 innings of work for a 2.75 ERA.

The Los Angeles Dodgers are getting healthy but they still have plenty of work to do if they are going to make the post season. The Dodgers are 5-5 in their last 10 games, 23-24 on the road this season, and they are 1.5 games behind the Giants in the N.L. West. As a team the Dodgers are hitting .249 with Matt Kemp hitting .361, Andre Ethier hitting .294, and James Loney hitting .248. As a team the Didgers pitching staff has an ERA of 3.30 with the starters at 3.333 and the bullpen at 3.23. For game one at St. Louis Los Angeles starts Chad Billingsley who makes his return from the DL. For the season Billingsley has allowed 113 hits and 50 earned runs while striking out 100 over 104.2 innings of work for a 4.30 ERA.

St. Louis is 5-0 in their last five home games, 6-1 in their last seven games against the N.L. West, and 12-3 in their last 15 games as a favorite of up to -150. Los Angeles is 10-19 in their last 29 games overall, 5-11 in their last 16 road games, and 0-5 in Billingsley’s last five starts. Los Angeles is 8-23 in their last 31 games in St. Louis.

Kelly has had some tough luck pitching well and those pitchers tend to eventually just have a bad outing which I look for here as the Dodgers have won the last seven meetings of these two and they make it eight here as a nice underdog.

Pick

Los Angeles Dodgers +125 St. Louis Cardinals

New York Mets vs. Los Angeles Dodgers

The New York Mets and the Los Angeles Dodgers face off on Sunday for game three of their series at Citi Field.  The Mets are -140 favorites over the Dodgers with an over/under run total set at 8.

The New York Mets are in danger of getting swept at home and falling out of the post season race in the National League as they lost again to the Dodgers in their game on Saturday. Ronny Cedeno hit a home run, Scott Hairston had two hits, and Jason Bay had a hit as the Mets scored five runs on 10 hits. On the mound Miguel Batista allowed five hits and four earned runs while lasting just three innings to drop to 1-3 on the season and R.A. Dickey made a relief appearance allowing a two run home run that gave the Dodgers some breathing room. For Sunday’s game New York looks to salvage a win as they start Jon Niese who had a no decision in his last outing despite allowing just three hits and a run over seven innings. For the season Niese has allowed 98 hits and 44 earned runs while striking out 99 over 110.2 innings of work for a 3.58 ERA.

The Los Angeles Dodgers are back at full strength and have won their last three games in a row including Saturday. Juan Uribe had two hits including a home run and Matt Kemp and James Loney had two hits each as the Dodgers scored eight runs on 11 hits in all. Starting pitcher Chris Capuano allowed eight hits and three earned runs while striking out nine over seven innings to run his record to 10-5 and Kenley Jansen earned his 18th save. For Sundays game Los Angeles starts Nathan Eovaldi who may be the odd man out if the Dodgers are able to acquire the starting pitcher they are looking for. For the season Eovaldi has allowed 56 hits and 25 earned runs while striking out 27 over 52 innings of work for a 4.33 ERA.

New York is 1-8 in their last nine games overall, 0-7 in their last seven games against a right handed starter, and 2-7 in Niese’s last nine starts against a team with a winning record. Los Angeles is 1-4 in their last five games as an underdog, 9-19 in their last 28 games overall, and 1-8 in Eovaldi’s last nine starts. LA is 3-5 in their last eight games in New York.

The Dodgers are clearly the better team but Eovaldi isn’t bettable especially on the road even at this price.
