Online Blackjack

Blackjack is a game that is played between the players and the dealer. The players are against the dealer and the object of the game is to get as close to 21 as possible without going over. The dealer starts by dealing two rounds of cards until each player has two cards face up and the dealer has one card face up exposing its value and one card hidden. Once you have received your cards you have several options depending on what you hold vs. the dealer

The rules for a player are as follows:

Hit: This command means that the player would like to take another card. When you say hit the dealer will provide you with another card for your hand. Assuming that you do not go over 21, you will have the option to hit again if you should choose to do so.

Stand: Saying stand means that you are satisfied with your hand and would not like another card. Once you have said stand the other players at the table will get to make their decisions followed by the dealer.

Bust: If you or the dealer’s hand ever goes over 21, this is a called a bust and you or the dealer will automatically lose the hand and whatever bet you had place (remember, the object of the game is to get as close to 21 as possible without going over).

Double-Down: This command allows you to double your bet in exchange for only one card. If you choose to double down, the dealer will give you one card and you must stand, you cannot hit again. Players use double-down when the dealer has a particularly weak face card up such as a 6 and the player holds a good starting hand to beat it such as 10 total which gives them a good chance of doubling their bet and letting the dealer bust.

Split: A split occurs when the player has two of the same cards. If this happens, the player is allowed to announce a split whereby they must double their bet and the hand is split into two hands of play. The player then plays the hand normally and is free to double, hit or stand accordingly. The only exception is splitting aces which in most games the dealer does not have the option to hit after they have been split.

Insurance: If the dealers exposed card or up card is an ace, he will give the players an option to take insurance. Insurance is a bet that the dealer has blackjack and is equal to half of the total amount that you are betting. If you take insurance and the dealer has blackjack, you will be returned your full bet. If you take insurance and the dealer does not have blackjack, you will lose your insurance bet but will be able to continue the hand with your original bet. It is only a good idea to take insurance when you have a very good hand (18,19 or 20) and the dealer has an ace because if you have a marginal hand (12,13,14,15,16, etc.) there is a high chance that you will end up losing the hand anyways.

It is also important to note that the dealer must also follow certain rules while playing including:

Stand On 17: In general the dealer must stand once they have reached 17 meaning that they may not take anymore cards. It should also be noted that the dealer must hit until they reach 17 or above or go bust in the process.

Player Blackjacks: If a player gets a blackjack (a 10 or face card plus an ace) the dealer will immediately pay them 1 1/2 times their bet assuming they do not also hold a blackjack.

Dealer Blackjacks: If the dealer exposes an ace, he must give the players an option for insurance as described above. The only exception to this is if the dealer exposes a face card and then has an ace hidden underneath in which case the player loses.

Blackjack vs 21

Blackjack is a very common game in casinos around the world, although there are some people who call the game ’21’.  By either name, they are essentially the same game.  In most casinos there is a different pay rate for multiple cards that add up to 21 and a “Blackjack” – which is the two-card combination of an ace and a ten or face card that adds up to 21.

For example, having been dealt a seven and an eight as your first two cards, you are then dealt a ‘hit’ card of six.  That equals 21, and in most casinos you will be paid at a rate of 1 to 1.  That means you are paid equal to what you put out in your bet.  Two chips bet will be paid two chips.

A Blackjack, on the other hand, typically pays 3 to 2, depending on the casino.  In this case you are dealt an ace and a jack (or any other 10 point card) which equals 21.  Your two-chip bet will be paid three chips.  Both physical and online casinos will have their payouts clearly stated at each table.

Craps Betting

On the Sportsbook website there are many casino games that can be played, and craps is one of them. The types of bets available are varied in this game and, when you watch it for the first time you might think you will never understand it.  The truth, however, is that almost anybody can figure out how to bet on craps with a little tutoring.

The Roman gladiators may have been the first to play craps.  Their game involved using a simple die with dots on the various sides.  The modern-day game of craps is much the same as the game played in ancient Roman times. There have been developments over the centuries, of course, but the premise is still the same.

The Pass Bet in craps is the one that most people make.  Your bet will be placed on the Pass Line and when the dice are rolled, you hope for a seven or an 11 to win.  The bet will fail, however, if you roll a two, three, or 12; any other number results in you rolling again.  This is most common bet as you have a decent chance of winning, but the payout is also mild – it only pays 1 to 1.

A bet the ‘hard way’ is won by betting on and rolling doubles.  For example, a four, an eight, or a 10 would be rolled, but would have to be doubles to win.  In other words, for an “eight the hard way”, a five and a three wouldn’t work – you would have to roll two fours.  These bets pay much higher, but they are also much harder to win.

Casino Games on Sportbook

While checking the odds on your favorite sporting events at Sportbook you may want an occasional change. There are several options available, including many casino games which can be played at the site.

You can play almost any casino game you can imagine. Online games include blackjack, poker, roulette, and video slots. Most can be played with either real money or just for fun with no real money changing hands.

Where poker is concerned you can play the ever popular Texas Hold’em, as well as Three Card Poker, Free Ride, Showdown Poker, and the exotic Pai Gow Poker.

Roulette can be played in either the European or the American version. Slots are also fun, with video versions of some of the more popular brick and mortar casino slots available at the site. Games that are available at Sportbook include Barbary Coast, Heist, and Rockstar.

The options, once you register with the website, are numerous. You can play any of the games for real money, or you are also able to play to your heart’s content for free. Gambling for free doesn’t involve any risk on your part, of course, and you can practice and learn the games well enough to feel comfortable playing for real in the future. Just always remember to gamble responsibly, and never bet more than you can afford to lose.

Tips for Blackjack Players

While Sportsbook betting can be quite complex and require knowledge to do well at, other games also have their nuances and particular rules to learn. The strategies involved can be quite complicated.

Learning to play a good game of blackjack is satisfying and, no matter what level you play at, there are always more things to learn about. While luck is a very big part of this game your strategic knowledge and the moves you make can help improve your odds of winning. Luck plus experience plus strategy will equal more frequent wins.

The best tip here is to keep your mind active and involved in the game. Watch everything. Watch the dealer and the cards that are dealt. Watch the other players. Watch what they bet and how many face cards have come out of the shoe so far.

Another important tip is to hold on to your bank. Play a little of your stack in each hand and build it up slowly instead of playing a larger portion of it on any one hand. If you play just a small bet each hand, you can afford to keep playing if you hit a streak of losses. The idea here is to stay alive and playing for as long as possible.

Practice, practice, and practice – deal cards to yourself or a friend and practice determining quickly whether you want a hit or to stand, and also notice the frequency of the hands you get. If you practice in a relaxed atmosphere and become familiar with the lingo and the moves, you will be much more relaxed when you sit down at a casino table for a real game.
