With the Texas Rangers and Los Angeles Angels tied for first place in the American League West, the two meet at the Ballpark in Arlington, Texas. The Rangers are -105 favorites with the over/under run total set at 8.5 runs.
The Texas Rangers entered this series against the division rival Angels all alone in first in the American League West and with a loss it will end with them in second place. On Tuesday Yorvit Torreabla homered and had two hits, Ian Kinsler had two hits, and Elvis Andrus, Michael Young, Nelson Cruz, David Murphy, and Mitch Moreland had hits but it wasn’t nearly enough to match an inpired Angels team. Colby Lewis was jsut the first Texas pitcher to get shelled as he allowed five hits and four runs over five innings of work to take the loss but Mason Torbin was hit hard allowing two hits and three runs in just a third of an inning and Michael Kirkman got clubbed allowing six hits and six runs, five of them earned in 1.2 innings of work before Dave Bush allowed two more runs off two more hits in an outright bashing of Rangers pitching. Texas looks to bounce back on Wednesday as they start Matt Harrison. For the season Harrison has allowed 14 hits and three earned runs while while striking out 14 in 22 innings of work.
The Los Angeles Angels are 8-2 in theor last 10 games and charging hard toward the top of the AL West. On Tuesday Mark Trumbo, Macier Izturis, and Peter Bourjos all homered while Bourjos had four hits, and Trumbo had three in a 15 hit 15 run attack. Matt Palmer allowed three hits and a run over six innings to get the win and while the bullpen gave up three runs, it was all academic at that point. For Wednesday’s game Los Angeles starts Jered Weaver who is off to a strong start. For the season Weaver has allowed 13 hits and four earned runs while striking out 31 in 27.2 innings of work.
Texas is 7-2 in their last nine home games, 9-3 in their last 12 game three of a series, and 5-0 in Harrison’s last five starts. Los Angeles is 7-1 in their last eight road games, 5-1 in their last six games following a win, and 5-0 in Weaver’s last five starts. Los Angeles is 1-7 in Weaver’s last eight starts in Texas.
Neither of these pitchers give away much and runs are going to be tough to come by. This one looks like an under. Take the under 8.5 runs in this ballgame.
