Who Will be the Top Pick in the 2011 NFL Draft?

In the world of college football, there are the players that are succeeding at the college game, and there are the players with the best pro potential.  There is often crossover between those two groups, but they are not entirely the same.  After all, guys like Eric Crouch and Jason White won Heisman Trophies, but never played in the NFL.  In the end, it is the players who go high in the NFL Draft that make the big money.  So, who is going to be the top pick in the 2011 NFL Draft?

Well, the odds are it will be a quarterback or an offensive tackle.  It is rare to see another player taken with that pick, though we do occasionally see a defensive end, such as with Mario Williams in 2006.  However, the trend in recent years has really pointed toward quarterback.  If you are going to turn a franchise around, a good quarterback is almost essential, and the best place to get one is to draft one highly and hope they pan out.

For a while, Jake Locker was considered by many to be the likely top pick in 2011.  However, he has struggled this season and is no longer considered much of a contender for the honor.  No, the new quarterback on top of the heap is Stanford’s Andrew Luck.  The Cardinals are +3,000 to win the BCS Championship on Sportsbook, and they owe that mostly to Luck.  Granted, he may not enter the NFL Draft this year, but if he does, he is very likely to be the top pick.

Buffalo’s Super Bowl Run Amazing Despite No Wins

No team wants to be the Super Bowl runner up.  Every team plays to win it all and, even if making the Super Bowl means being one step away from that, it is far from a satisfactory consolation prize.  Despite that, once upon a time the Buffalo Bills did something very impressive without ever winning a single title.  In the early 1990s, they played in four consecutive Super Bowls.  Sure, they lost all four, but it is still one of the best feats in NFL history.

The run started with Super Bowl XXV, where they lost by a score of 20-19 to the New York Giants thanks to Scott Norwood’s shanked field goal.  The next three Super Bowls were not close, and featured to losses to the Dallas Cowboys.  On the one hand, they were the Super Bowl losers for four years in a row.  On the other hand, they were the AFC champions for four seasons in a row as well.  No other team has ever played in four straight Super Bowls.  There is a good chance it never happens again.  It was an incredible run.

While Bills fans are surely disappointed in those four years they didn’t win title, they can still be happy that their team was able to come that close in four consecutive seasons.  Hey, it is a better scenario than Buffalo fans are currently facing with the Bills are +500,000 on Sportsbook to win the Super Bowl.  Making the Super Bowl and losing is certainly better than having one of the worst teams in the league.

What Was the Best Super Bowl of the Past Decade?

The Super Bowl is the biggest football game of the year, and perhaps the biggest sporting event of the year.  As such, it is always nice when the game can be outstanding so that it can live up to all the hype.  Fortunately for football fans, the past decade has seen quite a few excellent Super Bowls.  While it is a subjective matter, particularly if you had a team that played in any of these Super Bowls, what is the pick here for the best Super Bowl of the past decade?

The most important criteria is a close game.  Tampa Bay versus Oakland may have had a lot of scoring, but it wasn’t a terribly engaging encounter.  On the flip side, the New York Giants upset of the undefeated New England Patriots was a great story and a close game, but aside from a couple of notable plays the game itself lacked a lot of great moments.

The aforementioned Patriots played a couple of great Super Bowls that went down to the wire against the St. Louis Rams and the Carolina Panthers.  However, they didn’t play in the top Super Bowl.  That game would have to be the matchup between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Arizona Cardinals.  The final score was 27-23 in favor of the Steelers, thanks to a last minute touchdown catch by Santonio Holmes.  That game also had a 64-yard touchdown catch by Larry Fitzgerald and a fantastic 100-yard interception return by James Harrison as the first half ended.  Sportsbook has the Steelers as the favorite to win the Super Bowl this season.  The game probably won’t be as good as their last, however.

Who Will Be the NBA MVP?

For the last two seasons, LeBron James has won the NBA MVP.  Now, he finds himself playing alongside two other players who have found themselves as MVP candidates in the past in Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh.  That is great for the Miami Heat, but it isn’t good for any of their MVP hopes.  There is only one ball out there, and none of these guys are going to get as many opportunities as they have when they were the man on their respective teams.  While James and Wade are both still likely to compete for the MVP award, there are many other candidates out there.

Kevin Durant, who Sportsbook has given the best odds of winning to, is a trendy favorite.  He was the leading scorer in the NBA last season and could be better this season.  However, cagey veterans such as Kobe Bryant, Steve Nash, and Dirk Nowitzki shouldn’t be forgotten.  Then, there are dominant forces such as Dwight Howard and Chris Paul.

With so many great candidates, picking a most valuable player is tricky.  If LeBron takes on the sort of de facto point guard role, as some think he will, he becomes an excellent choice.  If Durant can score over 30 points per game, he may be the favorite.  However, the pick here is Kobe Bryant.  He may be getting older, but heis still outstanding, and if he can physically withstand an 82 game NBA season, he will take home the NBA’s MVP once again.

The Most Disappointing Team in College Football

Naming the most disappointing team in college football isn’t just about the prestige of the program.  It isn’t even about last season’s team.  Florida may not be as good this year as they have been, but pretty much everybody expected that.  They lost a ton of talent to the NFL, including Tim Tebow.  No, it is the teams that still have the talent but don’t succeed to the degree that was expected of them that disappoint.  So, what is the most disappointing team in college football?

Early on, after their loss to James Madison, it looked like Virginia Tech.  However, they now look like they will win the ACC, which Sportsbook agrees with, so they aren’t a good pick.  People are perennially disappointed with Notre Dame, but they have had injury issues this season that have attributed to their less than stellar season.  Brian Kelly needs time.

There are several teams that were ranked in the pre-season that no longer are, but some of those rankings aren’t a fair barometer for what to expect from a team.  For example, Texas was ranked fifth because of last season, but they lost Colt McCoy.

In the end, it is a battle between two teams from Georgia.  That would be the Bulldogs of Georgia and the Yellow Jackets of Georgia Tech.  Considering the Bulldogs lost their best player due to suspension for four games, that certainly is a mitigating factor.  Meanwhile, Georgia Tech won the ACC last season and may not make a bowl this year.  For that reason, they are the most disappointing team in college football.

Blackjack vs 21

Blackjack is a very common game in casinos around the world, although there are some people who call the game ’21’.  By either name, they are essentially the same game.  In most casinos there is a different pay rate for multiple cards that add up to 21 and a “Blackjack” – which is the two-card combination of an ace and a ten or face card that adds up to 21.

For example, having been dealt a seven and an eight as your first two cards, you are then dealt a ‘hit’ card of six.  That equals 21, and in most casinos you will be paid at a rate of 1 to 1.  That means you are paid equal to what you put out in your bet.  Two chips bet will be paid two chips.

A Blackjack, on the other hand, typically pays 3 to 2, depending on the casino.  In this case you are dealt an ace and a jack (or any other 10 point card) which equals 21.  Your two-chip bet will be paid three chips.  Both physical and online casinos will have their payouts clearly stated at each table.

The casino at Sportsbook offers blackjack online, as well as many other popular casino games. Poker: Mathematics is the Key

Sportsbook betting is very dependent on gambling odds and the probabilities of one given team or player succeeding over another.  Poker is also a very math oriented game.  The odds and percentages are important in poker, and the more you know about that, the better you will become at playing the game.

The theory of poker as a mathematical game reminds one of algebraic functions and formulas.  This is because at any given time there is bound to be information that is missing from the poker equation.  When you calculate the probabilities of a hand you must figure it several different ways, with each outcome dependent on what will show up in the missing spaces.  For example, in a Draw Poker game if you hold a King and a Jack and lay down three of your cards for replacement cards, the missing information is what the three cards you will get are going to be.

Your hand’s health will depend on which cards you will be dealt, and each hand will have a different mathematical probability of winning or losing.  Kenny Rogers was right when he sang, “You’ve got to know when to fold ‘em”, and cut your losses.  Knowing when the odds are on your side is crucial to playing winning poker, and is very much a matter of mathematics.

Betting patterns are interesting and very mathematical as well.  Learn all you can about betting and how your opponents react to your bets.  Pros spend time studying their fellow players.  Just as in Sportsbook wagering, you need to learn all you can about the opposing team.

What Was the Worst Super Bowl of the Past Decade?

Everybody wants the Super Bowl to be a great game.  Well, everybody probably wants any game they are watching to be great, but the Super Bowl even more so.  It is the championship game of the most popular sport in the United States, and the last chance for football fans to watch the NFL for months.  As such, when the game is disappointing, it is extra unpleasant.  Fortunately, there have been few less than stellar Super Bowls in the past decade.  However, which was the least enjoyable viewing experience?

This really comes down to two games.  While some of the Super Bowls weren’t close, they at least had exciting plays.  For example, when the Indianapolis Colts beat the Chicago Bears, the game began with a Devin Hester kickoff return for the Bears.  The game may have ended 29-17, but the game still had its moments.

The two games that could answer this question are Baltimore’s 34-7 thrashing of the New York Giants and Pittsburgh beating Seattle 21-10.  That first game at least had a few big plays.  Duane Starks had a 49-yard interception return for a touchdown.  Then, the Giants got a return touchdown, followed by a return touchdown for the Ravens.  The Steelers versus the Seahawks had nothing like that.  It was lower scoring, it lacked much in the way of excitement, and it is widely considered a terribly officiated game.  For all those reasons, it is the worst Super Bowl of the past decade.  Sportsbook has the Steelers as the favorite to win the Super Bowl this season. If they do, hopefully it is in a better game than Super Bowl XL.
